Passenger cars operated in Europe are mostly equipped with manual transmission in combination with single-plate dry clutch with diaphragm spring. A clutch failure results usually in vehicle immobility, it can also eventuate in dependent damages of transmission. Considering the aspects of reliability the vehicle clutch is a serially mounted element, whose failure causes a failure of the whole system – automobile. This paper presents the results of monitoring failures of passenger vehicles clutches manufactured by European producers.
