In: Acta technologica agriculturae, SPU Nitra, Volume 5, Number 1, March 2002, s.13 -22, ISSN 1335-2555 Abstract: The main cause of operational problems of hydraulic equipment is often considered to be the presence of large solid particles in the hydraulic fluid. To eliminate those, ever finer filters are being used; however, problems still persist. The existing knowledge and concepts of the tribological phenomena in hydraulic equipment do not always lead to the elimination of specific problems. Therefore, new explanations are being sought and existing notions change; satisfactory explanations of all occurring problems are being sought. This paper summarizes some notions, hypotheses and results of their verification, which change the existing view of tribological phenomena in hydraulic systems, especially on mechanisms and the importance of the degradation of hydraulic pressure fluid.
